October

Our gardening tips for late summer going into early autumn

Re-seed your lawn (whole lawn or patching in)
It’s now cooler for grass seed to germinate

Apply autumn lawn feed
This helps to eliminate moss

Cover your pond with netting
It’ll stop leaves falling in, preventing harmful gasses building up and damaging pond life

Plant shrubs and trees
(acers, liquid ambers, winter flowering cherry trees etc.)

The soil is still warm, helping roots to establish and grow before winter

Prune back perennial plants that have gone over
Split and divide any plants that have become large

Remove summer baskets that have gone over, and start your winter baskets
Use winter pansies, violas, polyanthus etc.

Compost the waste from tidying up your garden
Separate out any wood before composting, and use compost maker to accelerate
